RABBIT STORIES
The following stories are true stories that have happened to bunnies. Good
things and bad, mostly due to nature and people's ignorance and lack of
respect for the animal. And a tribute for the "angels" out there who rescue
them! CUDO'S to all of  you for making a big difference and for caring!

We do breed bunnies for shows and provide pets for loving homes. But we
always offer to take back any of our bunnies we sell, if our buyer's
circumstances change and they can't keep the bunny anymore.
We don't think any less of the person who may return one to us. Things
happen sometimes beyond our control, and at least that owner is doing the
right thing by their bunny. That's what we care about the most!

This is another reason too why alot of breeders (us included),  DO NOT sell
bunnies for an Easter gift, to prevent impulsive buys that may lead to
homeless bunnies after the novelty wears off.
This is Oscar's story
"We rescued Oscar from a shelter
where he was brought after being
found in a trash bin!! Cage thrown
in and water bottle frozen! Please
spread the word that bunnies
(especially ones adopted for
Easter) who are unwanted can find
good homes if they are taken to a
shelter."  Jennie, MA
Look how happy Oscar is now!
*** Sometimes even breeders you
buy a bunny from will kindly take
back the bunny and rehome them
for you if found healthy from a vet
.
This poor bunny was found in
someones dark basement with no
food, no water and teeth severely
overgrown!
It was rescued and adopted and is
enjoying a loving life with his new
owner. Was vet checked, teeth cut
down and found very lovable!
Another incidence I read while researching, was the case where 3 domestic
rabbits,( not wanted anymore) were brought out into the wild and left. The cage
door was opened, one was killed and the other 2 never left the cage and died
from starvation.
PLEASE: DO NOT RELEASE DOMESTICATED RABBITS INTO THE WILD!! Their life
expectancy when released like this is only 3 days tops. There are too many
predators out there, plus they are used to being fed regularly not scrounging for
food!
Either find a new home for the pet, or bring to a no kill shelter, so they have a
chance at a good life! No one will think any less of you for surrendering a pet!
The Rabbit Haven Just read some of
these stories about abused and injured
rabbits being found and rescued!
Some of the pics and stories are a bit graphic, but they
warn you, if you don't want to see them.
          Easter Bunny

       by Mary Brandolino

In memory of all the bunnies we couldn't save.

I remember Easter Sunday

It was colorful and fun

The new life that I'd begun

In my new cage.

I was just a little thing

When they brought me from the store

And they put me on the floor

In my cage.

They would take me out to play

Love and pet me all the time

Then at day's end I would climb

In my cage.

But as days and weeks went by

I saw less of them it seemed

Of their loving touch I dreamed

In my cage.

In the night outside their house

I felt sad and so neglected

Often scared and unprotected

In my cage.

In the dry or rainy weather

Sometimes hotter sometimes colder

I just sat there growing older

In my cage.

The cat and dog raced by me

Playing with each other only

While I sat there feeling lonely

In my cage.

Upon the fresh green grass

Children skipped and laughed all day

I could only watch them play

From my cage.

They used to take me out

And let me scamper in the sun

I no longer get to run

In my cage.

Once a cute and cuddly bunny

Like a little ball of cotton

Now I'm grown up and forgotten

In my cage.

I don't know what went wrong

At the home I did inhabit

I just grew to be a rabbit

In my cage.

But they've brought me to the pound

I was once loved and enjoyed

Now I wait to be destroyed

In my cage.

Help us spread the word!
This is a poem I found on this site
I thought I'd share with everyone. Its sad but it
happens! Make sure you can be committed to your
bunny for
all its life......love, daily quality time. If not
then don't get one.

Miscellaneous Info
Bobby (15) and his mom just bought 3 baby
bunnies from a petshop. In 1 week, 2 of these
babies died! After listening to their story  we
find out the babies were only 5 weeks old,
probably never weaned before being sold, and
died of enteritis!
Course the blame doesn't belong on the buyer,
they didn't know any different! The 3rd baby is
still alive but not looking good.
LESSON: Never buy a bunny any less than 8
weeks old
!!!!!!!!!!
Generally, babies should be with mom for 5-6
weeks, then weaned for 3, then sold.
